1970 Cheoy Lee Clipper 42
Boat Type: Cruiser Address: Green Cove Springs, FL, US Price: $75,000

Overview

The Cheoy Lee Clipper 42, when built in 1970, was promoted as a cruising yacht of high quality and construction, combining the best features of the huskiest fiberglass hull with the craftsmanship evident in the exquisite Burma teak trim and joiner work.

This classic  head turner had a major refit in 2004-05 that included a new engine, rigging, sails, thru-hullls and an extensive  interior makeover. Her good turn of speed is evidenced in her  third place finish  in the Carriacou Yacht Regatta two-handed round-the-island race in 2006.

In 2009, she won second prize in the Antigua Classics Yacht Regatta Concourse d'Elegance for best privately maintained yacht built after 1950.  She is fast and beautiful too!

We are the third owners of this boat, and have sailed her in Nova Scotia since 1997, and cruised the Caribbean since 2005.

In 2006, she came third in the Carriacou Yacht Regatta two-handed round-the-island race.In 2009, she won second prize in the Antigua Classics Yacht Regatta Concourse d'Elegance for best privately maintained yacht built after 1950.

For the last four hurricane seasons, she has been hauled at Jolly Harbour Marina, Antigua, with the masts removed and stored. Masts and all brightwork receive two additional coats of Epifanes varnish annually. Bottom was stripped to bare hull and epoxy coated in 2007. Bottom is sanded and painted (2 coats) annually.

Nancy Dawson is a classic: she sails well, is strongly built, elegant, reliable, comfortable at sea, and is easily handled by two. Over the years, we've accumulated and upgraded the equipment needed for safe and comfortable cruising.

Nancy Dawson is hauled and availalbe for showing by appointment in Green Cove Springs, Florida.

Here are excerpts from a recent review Of The Cheoy Lee Clippers by a well respected, independent Sailing publication:

"There’s no denying that the “classic” look of the Cheoy Lee Clipper series is enough to make your heart flutter: “That’s what a boat is suppose to look like!”  Indeed, some well-known personalities such as singer Jimmy Buffet have succumbed to the Clipper’s Siren song.  Construction certainly was above average, with heavily laid hulls and  sound joinerwork......Regarding performance, the boat is deceptively quick on a reach, but due to its full keel and heavy displacement hull shape, does not excel  upwind..... but you don't buy a Cheoy Lee Clipper for performance or ease of maintenance. The 36 and 42 appeal to certain types of sailors, and you know who you are. Go in with your eyes open.... and you’ll have a boat to be proud of for many years to come."
