Overview

Tayana sailboats,(especially the 48, 52 and 55) are highly respected, world renowned, thoroughbred, blue water cruisers. They are designed by Robert H. Perry and built by the highly respected Ta Yang yard in Taiwan. The Ta Yang factory has produced over 1200 high quality Tayana sailboats. Perry's designs make sense! They are moderate displacement, performance cruisers and are well known for their truely elegant, furniture quality, teak interiors. They are spacious, comfortable and fast on all points of sail. Tayanas are designed and built for offshore conditions and cutter rigged for ease of handling in any wind/sea condition. And yet the Tayana 48 is still ICW friendly. With a modest draft of 6' 3" and a mast clearance height of 63', she can glide through shoal waters and can just sneak under most (65') ICW fixed bridges.

The larger Tayanas are available in several versions, center-cockpit, deck salon and pilot house, two and three private cabin layouts, and deep and shallow draft. This one is a center-cockpit, 2 private cabin, deep draft (6' 3"), design. Tayanas are also built as semi-custom boats. New owners are invited to the factory in Taiwan to participate in the design and decision making process. This Tayana 48 is no exception and she is also a "one owner" boat. The owner went to Taiwan in 1996 and participated in the design planning decisions. From the design collaboration Tayana incorporated numerous changes and upgrades. Most noteable of these is the enlarged forward guest suite. Other custom upgrades are evident throughout the boat. The engine is a turbo-charged, Yanmar, 88 hp diesel. The propellor is a high quality, auto-feathering, Max-Prop. The propellor automatically optimizes it's blade orientation (hence torque & speed), depending on whether the boat is motoring forward, motoring in reverse, or sailing. The boat includes a PUR 80 gallon per day fresh watermaker. A Lewmar powered winch is on the cabintop to assist with halyard or sheet trimming. All the chocks are robust, custom, polished stainless steel and set into and flush with the teak toerail. The headliner throughout the boat is soft vs hard board. The ceiling lighting fixtures and galley and head plumbing fixtures are all custom, etc.

Interior & Accommodations
If you have never been aboard a fine quality Tayana sailboat, prepare for a treat. This Bob Perry designed boat, robust Taiwan construction, sensible & spacious layout and beautiful hand rubbed, satin varnish, all teak interior are together an impressive package.

The large comfortable center-cockpit gives the helmsman and crew a commanding view of the entire deck and surrounding water. It also allows for a large, ample headroom master suite aft. Entering the companionway and stepping below one enters the spacious main salon. The companionway ladder is furniture quality with a custom clear lexan back panel. Ahead to port is a cozy oval settee and custom folding table. Main salon lighting is excellent, with two large windows, port and starboard. The sole is teak and holly. There is plenty of storage space in all cabins. The overhead throughout is a soft off white vinyl. All light fixtures are Italian, gold plated brass Cantalupi fixtures. The stereo speakers are recessed into the overhead and headliner. From the companionway, immediately to port is a spacious and comfortable galley, with many quality features. Immediately to starboard is a large "L" shaped navigation console with an adjustable, swiveling chair. Ahead to starboard is a straight settee. The custom folding teak table can be expanded to a full size table for six or folded to accomodate 3-4. The table can also be lowered and locked to support an additional berth cushion to enable the sette to serve as an extra berth.

The large, "L" shaped navigation console allows for two work areas, enabling operating say a computer on one side and doing chartwork on the other. Above over each area is plenty of room for electronics, radar, ssb, displays, radios, etc. The "L"shaped navigation console is a signature feature of the Tayana 48.

The galley has several special features. The galley and passage aft are full height and run aft along the port side. The galley boasts a quality, custom four burner stove and oven, two separate top and front access refrigerator and freezer compartments, and plenty of storage, counterspace and light. With it's fore and aft layout it is also comfortable, safe and efficient when underway or heeled.

Ahead of the main salon is the customized forward guest cabin. It consists of a large cabin with a centerline V berth, and generous storage. The forward head has two entrances, one private entrance from the guest cabin, and another serving the main salon. The forward head is quite large, with vanity, SS sink, Grohe fixtures and shower. Aft of the main salon and galley is the aft master suite. It consists of a large cabin with a centerline queen, generous storage and a large unsuite head, vanity, SS sink and shower. The Yanmar 88 hp engine and 7.5 kw genset are located amidships, in the central island, beneath the cockpit. The engine and enerator compartment is accessible from all four sides. Every cabin from bow to stern, has opening hatches and ports for airflow and ventilation, plenty of natural and electric lighting, many well placed handholds and a silent running Hella 12 vdc fan.
